The Art of Solitude – Personal Project
Overview
Spending time alone is something each and every one of us has to deal with. The experience of loneliness, the suffering it brings and the process of overcoming it are inherently part of being human. While solitude itself only describes the state of being alone, it´s often stigmatized as an inconvenience, as something to avoid.
The Art of Solitude therefore turned out to be the perfect topic for a personal project, which we began writing and producing in the summer of 2023. It serves as a mini awareness campaign, aiming to paint an honest portrait of what it means to be alone and to spark courage in embracing it.
Skadi finds herself on a solo getaway with all the difficulties as well as the quiet triumphs it brings. In the meantime her loved ones are torn between worry, compassion and skepticism for her decision to travel alone.
We came to the conclusion that spending time alone can lead to increased confidence, personal growth and self-acceptance. But this is often easier said than done and many of the nuanced feelings that arise in solitary moments are hard to put into words. We hope that our project resonates and raises questions about one´s own ability to spend time alone, revisiting past experiences and perhaps rethinking perspectives on others who seek solitude.
In the end, the cure for loneliness is the art of solitude.
